IMPORTANT PRESS RELEASE - (Friday 23rd September 4pm GMT)

The Councils of EACTS, ESTS & ESCVS have agreed the establishment of ECTSIA (the European Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgery Institute of Accreditation) It is an institute that monitors and recognises good practice in cardiac, thoracic and vascular surgery.

ECTSIA is managed by a board with executive representatives from the three specialty associations. The Board is chaired by a Medical Executive Director and has non-executive members (from outside the surgical specialties) who have an interest in this field.

This institute aims to encourage a culture of clinical performance monitoring and to give due recognition (accreditation) to units with robust data collection and quality monitoring.

ECTSIA and ECTSIA.ORG launched officially on Monday 13th October at the EACTS/ESTS Autumn 2003 meeting.
