How to Apply to ECTSIA This institute aims to encourage a culture of clinical performance monitoring and to give due recognition (accreditation) to units with robust data collection and quality monitoring. Participation is voluntary and initiated by application from interested units. A unit applying for accreditation will be asked to submit a portfolio of evidence of the following:
The Institute will assess the portfolio. If deemed satisfactory, inspectors will be appointed and a visit arranged. At the visit, through a combination of data review and interviews with key staff, the inspectors will verify that the portfolio is representative of the audit and governance mechanisms within the unit. The inspectors will then prepare a report to the Board. The report will contain a summary of the portfolio, an assessment of its contents, the findings of the visit and a recommendation to the Board on the granting of accreditation. The Board will decide whether to ratify the recommendation of the inspectors. The Medical Executive Director will inform the unit of the decision in writing, and provide feedback on the findings and recommendations. If successful, the unit will be issued with a certificate of accreditation. Inspectors are being drawn from all three specialist associations and will be independent of the unit to be inspected. The cost of inspecting one specialty within a unit will be €5000 to cover visitor and administrative expenses.
